Ten watches. More than $132 million in combined results, and only two were made this century. The list of the most expensive Patek Philippe watches ever sold reads less like a price chart and more like a map of what serious collectors truly value: steel where gold was the norm, enamel painted by hand, and complications so difficult that Patek made them only a few hundred times. It also hides a twist. One watch appears on it twice.
Here is the full ranking, based on auction data from Everywatch.com , from tenth place to the very top.
10. Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 2523J “Eurasia” – $8.38 Million
Sold: Christie’s Hong Kong, May 2024
The Ref. 2523 launched in 1953 as Patek’s second serially produced world-time wristwatch, following the Ref. 1415. Its party trick was a second crown that rotates the city ring, which made setting a new time zone far more intuitive. Total production across all versions ran to only a few dozen pieces.
The ultimate versions carry a cloisonné enamel map at the centre. Just three are known with the Eurasia map, all in yellow gold, and one of them lives in the Patek Philippe Museum. A small detail most people miss: Patek’s own records describe the map as “Europe.” Collectors renamed it, even though very little of Asia actually appears on it. At least six bidders chased this example in Hong Kong, and it hammered far above its opening bid.

9. Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 2523J “North America” – $8.5 Million
Sold: Christie’s Hong Kong, May 2023
Made in 1955, this example is one of only three yellow gold 2523s with a North America map known to survive. Christie’s gave it a dedicated single-lot evening sale, which says a lot about its status.
The real story is the price trajectory. When this exact watch sold at Christie’s Geneva in 2012, it fetched around CHF 2.8 million, or roughly $3 million. Eleven years later, it nearly tripled. There are only a few assets in any category that move like that.

8. Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 2523 “Gobbi Milano” – $8.97 Million
Sold: Christie’s Hong Kong, November 2019
No map here. Instead, a translucent blue enamel centre glows inside a pink gold case. Only seven pink gold 2523s are thought to have been made, and just two carry the blue enamel dial.
What makes this one unique is the second signature. The dial reads both Patek Philippe and Gobbi, the historic Milan retailer that received the watch in 1957. It is the only double-signed 2523 known. When it sold, it became the most expensive wristwatch ever auctioned in Asia, a record it held for years.
7. Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 1518 “Pink on Pink” – $9.57 Million
Sold: Sotheby’s New York, December 2021
Introduced in 1941, the Ref. 1518 was the world’s first perpetual calendar chronograph produced in series. Patek made roughly 281 of them, mostly in yellow gold. Pink gold examples are scarce. Pink gold with a matching salmon dial is rarer still, with only around 15 known.
This example adds royal provenance. It belonged to Prince Mohammed Tewfik Toussoun of Egypt, and many specialists consider it the finest “pink on pink” 1518 to surface. Around 19 bidders fought for it, pushing the result to more than four times its estimate.
6. Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 2523 “South America” – $10.24 Million
Sold: Phillips Geneva Watch Auction: XXIII, May 2026
Of the three map designs, South America is the rarest. Only two are known in yellow gold, and this 1953 example had appeared at auction just once before, back in 1988. Patek’s archives confirm it was finally sold to its first owner in February 1958.
After nearly four decades out of sight, it achieved CHF 7.96 million. That set a new world record for the reference and made it the most valuable 2523 ever sold.

5. Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 2499 First Series – $10.25 Million
Sold: Phillips Hong Kong Watch Auction: XXII, May 2026
The Ref. 2499 succeeded the 1518 in 1951 and stayed in production for 35 years. Only 349 were made across four series. The first series is the easiest to spot, thanks to its square chronograph pushers.
This pink gold example is one of only four first series 2499s in pink gold with a case by Vichet, and the only one bearing British hallmarks. It became the most valuable watch ever sold at auction in Asia. The kicker? It sold just three weeks after the “South America” 2523 and edged past it by roughly $8,000.

4. Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 1518 in Steel – $11.11 Million
Sold: Phillips Geneva Watch Auction: FOUR, November 2016
Here is where the list gets interesting. Of all 1518s produced, only four are known in stainless steel. Why Patek made them at all remains a mystery. In 2016, the first of those four, with “Number 1” engraved inside the caseback, became the first wristwatch ever to break eight figures at auction.
Remember this watch. You will see it again.
3. Patek Philippe Grande Sonnerie Minute Repeater Ref. 6301A-010 – $17.32 Million
Sold: Only Watch, Geneva, May 2024
Patek built this unique piece for Only Watch, the charity auction supporting research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. It takes the brand’s Grande and Petite Sonnerie, normally cased in platinum, and puts it in steel for the first and only time. The dial is blue-green Grand Feu enamel over hand guilloché, with diamond baguette indices.
The estimate was CHF 1.5 to 1.8 million. It sold for CHF 15.7 million, around nine times the estimate, to collector Zach Lu.
2. Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 1518 in Steel – $17.63 Million
Sold: Phillips Decade One (2015–2025), Geneva, November 2025
Same watch as number four. Same auction house. Nine years later, the “Number 1” steel 1518 returned to headline Phillips’ tenth-anniversary sale and achieved CHF 14.19 million. That makes it the most expensive vintage Patek Philippe wristwatch ever sold, and the most valuable timepiece sold at auction in 2025.
Its first known appearance was a sale in Budapest in 1944. Its value rose by more than $6.5 million between its two Phillips appearances. For collectors who still question whether steel can outrank gold, this watch is the final answer.
1. Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A-010 – $31.08 Million
Sold: Only Watch, Christie’s Geneva, November 2019
The most expensive Patek Philippe ever sold is also the most expensive wristwatch ever sold at auction. The Grandmaster Chime is Patek’s most complicated wristwatch, with 20 complications and a reversible case with two dials. For Only Watch 2019, Patek made it once in steel.
It sold for CHF 31 million. Seven years on, no wristwatch has come close.
Where the Ceiling Goes Next
The 2026 spring season alone added two watches to this list, both above $10 million. That would have been unthinkable a decade ago, when the steel 1518 first broke the eight-figure barrier. The supply of truly great vintage Patek is fixed and shrinking, while demand keeps getting deeper and more global.
The Grandmaster Chime’s $31 million still looks untouchable. But this list has rewritten itself four times since 2024. Betting against the next record has rarely been a good idea.
